Answering the Call: From Player to Owner, Melissa Yeazell Inspires the Next Generation of Women in Golf

March is Celebrating Women in Golf Month, and we’re shining a spotlight on the women making an impact in the sport. Throughout this series, we’re sharing inspiring stories of our course partners and advocates who are shaping the future of golf. From breaking barriers to creating inclusive opportunities, these women are driving change and encouraging more women to embrace the game in their own way.

Meet Melissa Yeazell, PGA Owner of Tri County Golf Ranch and Associate Head Coach for Northern Kentucky University Women’s Golf. From her early days swinging a cut-down 9-iron in her backyard to becoming a leader in the golf industry, Melissa’s journey is a testament to passion, tenacity, and dedication.

Breaking Barriers and Leading with Purpose

Melissa’s leadership story began when she joined her high school boys’ golf team as the only female player. Her determination not only earned her a spot on the team but also inspired the school to establish a girls’ golf program the following year. “I was fully supported by the boys on my team,” she says. “That experience showed me the power of representation.”

Interestingly, Melissa never set out to become a golf course owner or a college coach. “Golf course ownership was never the goal until it was presented to me. Just as being a Division 1 college golf coach was never the goal until it was presented to me. The game IS my life and I enjoy sharing it with others.” This unexpected path has become her mission, as she uses her experiences to mentor others and foster a more inclusive environment in the golf industry.

After playing collegiate golf at Xavier University and earning her MBA, Melissa’s career evolved from merchandising for city-owned golf courses to becoming an assistant golf professional. Her journey eventually led her to co-own Tri County Golf Ranch in 2015, solidifying her role as a leader in the industry.

Empowering Women on and off the Course

At Tri County Golf Ranch, Melissa is creating opportunities for women to engage with the sport in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Her Ladies Night Golf Clinics offer a space where women of all skill levels can learn, connect, and build confidence. Additionally, her mixed couples league encourages social play with a fresh format each week, making golf accessible and enjoyable for all.

Melissa also believes competitive play is key to professional growth. “It’s how I network and continue to learn the game,” she says. “It makes me a better teacher, coach, and facility owner.” She encourages other women in golf to embrace competition as a way to build their skills and confidence.

Shaping the Future of Women in Golf

Looking ahead, Melissa is optimistic about the growing presence of women in leadership roles within the golf industry. “We’re already seeing more women step into leadership positions,” she says. “I hope the industry continues to support a work-life balance that encourages even more women to pursue careers in golf.”

Inspired by mentors like Jan Fessel, her first golf professional, and LPGA pro Janet Bolle Carl—who shaped her junior golf development through fun experiences in the LPGA Girls Golf Club—Melissa is committed to paying it forward. Now, through coaching, mentorship, and advocacy, she’s making the path easier for future generations of women in golf.
